Oshiwara station completes the journey of more than a decade on 27th November

November 22, 2016

Oshiwara railway station, the proposed railway station of western line between Goregaon and Jogeshwari has finally completed its more than a decade journey from papers to under-construction to reality.

Oshiwara Station plan

It was way back in 2006 when a tender for the “consultancy services in architectural and structural design for proposed new land mark railway station building at ‘Oshiwara’ between Jogeshwari & Goregaon stations of Western Railway” was awarded. The tender was awarded by Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) which has been developing the station along with Western Railway. Another important player in the middle was the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Current Railway Minister Mr. Suresh Prabhu, who is known for his instant twitter actions on different types of passengers’ problems related to railways, will ingurate the much awaited Oshiwara Railway Station on November 27th 2016.

The station was commissioned by NDA in 2002. Until July 2016, it completed its 10 years and was still under construction. Part of the plan was to extend the harbour line beyond Andheri to Goregaon.

Several completion deadlines have lapsed. The Western Railway, the BMC and state officials have been unable to coordinate action. The station was scheduled to open in 2009. However, after residents insisted that the crossing level only be closed after the road overbridge is complete, this date was missed.

Post the opening of the Road over bridge in June 2016, the station was expected to be functional in 6 months. The opening of the station will pave the way for extending the Harbour line to Goregaon as oppose to currently terminating at Andheri.

Political review on Oshiwara Stn:

Since the station was sanctioned during the NDA government, in 2002.After that UPA govt has not paid any distinct attention towards its progress. May be they were busy doing various types of scams (Thanks to 2G, Coalgate, Commonwealth and many more). Mumbaikars were/are suffering because of the heavy rush during peak hours.

So finally BJP are celebrating in their own way:

Let’s see what opposition have in their bag after the incident of Demonetization after 8th November. Which party will compete for its credit after so many “Athak Prayatnas”.
